A Few Bits From JARSfest...

I headed up to a hamfest put on by the Johnston Amateur Radio Society (JARS) on Sunday 11/18/18. We had a chilly start for the tailgate area, but it warmed up quickly. BIG turnout! There was loads of stuff outdoors by the tailgating crowd, and all tables were sold out inside. Here's a few pics I took...

You can tell by the photos above, that I like the vintage stuff :-)  I picked up two bags full of components for various projects, only spent abt $30! Shrink tube for trap caps, piles of capacitors (HV, ceramics, electrolytics, etc), zener diodes, transistors, switches, project boxes, a huge RF plate choke, rubber feet, spacers, nicad battery packs, binding posts, etc.

I saw lots of old friends I had not seen in years, met several new friends, got to look at tons of stuff, and had the most fun I've had at a hamfest in years.

Dave's Hamfest!

Like many of you, I tend to collect things that I don't use. Being a builder, I also seem to collect lost of gear and parts that I never use. I've recently gotten the itch for a Flex radio, so I decided the best way to do this painlessly was to 'thin out' some of my excess radio goodies.

So, I've been cleaning out the workshop, utility room, garage, & attic a bit, and selling off the excess radio stuff to build my 'Flex Fund'. There's way too much to list here, but I put it on my website so I could easily update it as it clears out. Check out my load of hamfest stuff on my Dave's Hamfest Page at http://207.126.49.184/hockaday/ .

Re-Opening my Personal Hamfest!

While cleaning up a bit in my home workshop, I came to realize that I have WAY more 'rainy day projects' than there are rainy days... I've started itemizing parts, radio gear, and test equipment and listing it HERE on my personal hamfest page.

In years gone by I've parted out estate sales, loads of government radio gear, TV shop inventory I'd bought, along with various pieces of radio equipment I had repaired and wanted to sell. I found it much easier and more relaxing than trying to drag all that stuff to hamfests and less trouble than trying to manage a bunch of eBay listings.

I have many hundreds of tubes, all of which have been tested on my Hickok mutual conductance tester. They are a mix of NOS inventory, pulls, etc. I originally bought all of these to supply my own restoration needs for my boat anchor collection, but it got way out of control :-) You can take a peek at some of them HERE .

I'm always looking to improve my work bench on the cheap, so I'm constantly picking up used test equipment to restore. As a result, I also have a bunch of pieces of test gear in various stages of restoration. Some good, some not so good, some just for parts. You can see some of it HERE

I'm also always looking for that 'next piece' for my boat anchor collection. I list the items I'm looking for on my hamfest page as well. The inventory that is for sale is constantly changing, so keep an eye on the site and let me know if you see something you need. if so, drop me a note at wb4iuy@eastrc.org .

The CFARS FREE Hamfest was Saturday, 7/6/11

The CFARS hamfest was Saturday, Aug 6th, in Fayetteville NC. There was no admission charge and no fee for tables. Tailgating is permitted, if you could take the heat. Their website is http://www.CFARSNC.org.

There was a test session on site, walk-in's were accepted, and you needed to be there at 9am (testing at 9:30). If you were selling, you could get in as early as 6:30 am to set up. General admission was from 8am until 12-noon.

The site was in the Reeves Auditorium on the campus of the Methodist University, Hwy 401 North (5400 Ramsey Street, Fayetteville). The test session was in the Science building (look for the building with the tall tower behind Reeves Auditorium).

My oldest son, Chris KF4DBX, and I got up at 4am, pulled out at 4:30am, and headed that way. It was only about 65 miles from my home location. The raind was coming down so hard I could barely see the lines on the hiway, and I was worried about unloading at the site. We stopped along the way for breakfast, and headed onward. By the time we arrived, and weather had cleard and all was well. The swapmeet area was air conditioned, as was the test session site. Chris upgraded his call to General class, we sold a bit of goodies, picked up some goodies, and had a great time. We're ooking forward to next year, already!

There are a few pics on my facebook page HERE .
