I restored this beautiful Heathkit SB-102 for a friend in Kentucky. While in great cosmetic condition, it had some of the typical aches and pains of a 50+ year old radio. She needed recapping, had a handful of carbon resistors way out of spec, a few bad tubes, tube sockets not making connection, dirty switches, etc. To top that off an rf transformer was open (probably a near lightning strike), and a few incorrect parts were installed in places. Oh, I forgot to mention, it had shipping damage. That's a little tougher than just repairing something that quits working :-) Anyway, here she is, photos in no particular order, and a few videos explaining things...
I've been in Amateur Radio since 1974, and still find new and interesting things to do. I like to build, restore, and operate on the air. This blog has been running for many years, so be sure to check out "Jump to Posts on Specific Topics" in the RH column to drill down and find lots of stuff.
