Browning Labs Mark 100 Rebuild...

This is a rebuild / restoration of a very RARE Browning Labs Mark 100 Amplifier. This was a tube type mobile amp, running a pair of 6JG6A sweep tubes at about 650vdc in grounded grid. It has a heavy steel cabinet, uses a typical pi-net output circuit and a DC-DC converter to achieve the HV through a step up transformer.

I got this from a friend, and she was in very rough condition. I stripped the cabinet and sanded it smooth. I color matched it to the original color with info from another collector.

The original transformer was burned out, the germanium switching transistors were bad, as were the caps, t/r relay, etc. Since no one uses these in mobile operation any more, and it needed a new transformer, I decided to configure it for 115vac to make it usable again. It got a fresh transformer, it already had a solid set of 6JG6A tubes, new caps, wiring, t/r relay, lv dc control circuit, new safety grounding AC power cord, etc.

2-1/2 watts drive with 5-1/2 pep modulated on AM keys about 45 watts, modulated to 90+ watts pep. Can be driven with up to 20 watts pep as long as the dead key is kept around 2 watts. Its a rare piece of Browning history, much more rare than the model 180, and there's not many of these left. Here's a few pics and videos...

Hallicrafters SX-100

Picked this beauty up from a friend. Wow, she's gorgeous! Extremely good condition, and waiting in line for a full restoration.

Pride DX-300 Repairs

This is a Pride DX-300 I repaired for a friend. He got it in a state of disrepair. I found circuits mis-wired, some parts bad, a bad relay that was missing the cover and had bent contacts, the parasitic choke on the plate was rebuilt with wirewound resistors, the glitch resistors in the hv circuit were blown, the low voltage supply was bad, and the input matching circuit was incorrectly wired. On a positive note, it had the Nomad Radio board upgrades to work with, and a good tube. The paper outer transformer wraps were torn and falling loose, so I repaired that and installed meter protection mods, as well. After a bit of work, it was back running and better than new.

Wires plugged into wrong posts...

Vad glitch resistors...

Another bad glitch resistor...

Relay on right all buggered up...

Sealing down outer paper winding cover..

SMH... wirewound resistors used in hairpin parasitic choke...

Meter protection mods installed...

New parasitic match assy installed...

When I Ship A Henry Tempo One

This is a rule of thumb, when I ship any of these heavy rigs, but this video is about the Tempo One I restored...

Tower Guy Wires...

My son, Chris, and I installed my tower back in 1993. In 1998, I had to move the northeast guy cables to provide clearance for a shop addition, so I installed an elevated guy point. When I put the backup anchor in, there was no tree here. 32 years later, you can barely see the turn buckle exposed from the tree that swallowed it! Additionally, after the big rains recently, a spare guy plate arose from the ground, where it had disappeared in 1998. :-)
